MANZANERA KINDERWUNSCHKLINIK

Human fertility is a topic of great importance and, sadly, surrounded by numerous myths and disinformation. These erroneous concepts can cause anxiety, confusion and even complicate the access to treatments for those who wish to conceive. Hereunder, we will cover some of the most common myths about fertility.
Age does not affect fertility in young women.
One of the most extended myths is that young women do not need to worry about their age when talking about conception. Although women are indeed more fertile in their 20s and early 30s, the quality and quantity of oocytes begin to diminish after the age of 35. This gradual decline is a biological reality.
Men’s fertility is unlimited.
People believe that men can conceive at any age. The truth is that men can be fertile for an increased number of years, but the sperm quality decreases with ageing. Starting from 40, the spermatozoa motility and count tend to reduce, which can lead to the risk of fertility problems.
Stress impedes conception.
Although excessive stress can affect your general health, there is no solid scientific evidence proving that stress on its own impedes conception. However, fertility problems can indeed cause stress and further complicate the process of conception.
Fertility is just a matter of “success”.
While conception has a biological component and can occur naturally in many cases, factors such as lifestyle and medical conditions can influence it. Adequate planning and medical supervision can increase the possibility of conception.
It is fundamental to question these myths and consult with fertility experts to receive precise information that is based on scientific evidence.
