We can distinguish between insemination with a partner’s sperm or with a donor’s sperm. In this technique, the sperm is prepared in the laboratory and inserted directly into the woman’s uterus.
AI prevents any difficulties of sperm travel through the cervix and the encounter between the oocyte and spermatozoid. Nevertheless, this is just a little “help” because the union between both gametes – the fertilisation – occurs naturally. This technique can be considered when a woman is not suffering from tubal obstruction and the sperm is of sufficient quality. Besides, it is a technique suitable for homosexual couples and women who do not have a male partner and do not have fertility issues.

In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) with own oocytes
In this case, a doctor performs a follicular puncture to extract the follicles a few days after the beginning of the ovarian stimulation. The oocytes are fertilised with the corresponding partner’s or donor’s sperm sample in a laboratory. The fertilisation occurs by applying one of the two techniques: conventional IVF when the sperm is of sufficient quality or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Several days after development in the laboratory, the obtained embryos are transferred to the mother’s uterus or vitrified for future embryo transfers.

Egg donation (with donor’s oocytes)
When a woman cannot use her oocytes due to their low quality, scarce ovarian reserve, etc., she can opt for IVF with oocytes from an egg donor. The donor is the one who undergoes ovarian stimulation and follicular puncture in this treatment. The fertilisation and embryo development in the laboratory are like IVF done with own oocytes. In the end, a doctor transfers the embryos to the receptor.

Come to the first visit and get more information or solve your doubts about different treatments.
