VITRIFICATION OF EMBRYOS IN FERTILITY TREATMENTS (IVF-ICSI)

Good Morning!
As I have explained you before, on the day of the embryo transfer we provide you with information about the number of resulting embryos from the assisted reproduction treatment (egg donation or IVF) and about their quality, depending on whether they are type A, B, C or D (chapter 6).
Having decided on the number of embryos that will be transferred into the patient’s uterus, what happens to the rest of the viable embryos?
Remaining viable embryos from the treatment are VITRIFIED.
Vitrification is a technique that allows us to preserve embryos indefinitely in the laboratory, submerged in liquid nitrogen (at -196ºC).
Unlike classical freezing process, where the cooling happens gradually until the desired temperature is reached, during vitrification, the cells cool much more quickly, thus preventing the formation of ice, that could damage those cells.
In this way, the vitrified embryos have better survival and subsequent implantation rates than with the traditional freezing technique, obtaining practically the same results as when transferring “fresh” embryos.
Thus, in the event that within an assisted reproduction treatment (Egg donation or IVF) we get several viable embryos, we are able to perform several transfers. And in case you did not get pregnant within the first transfer, you would still have more chances, without having to start the whole process of stimulating the ovaries again.
Please, send us your questions to info@centromedicomanzanera.com or fill out the following form: https://centromedicomanzanera.com/en/formulario_en/ , and we will carefully study your case.

Have a nice day,
María Pombar Gómez
Embryologist

IMAGE: Creative Culture / Gallery Stock
#assistedreproduction
#fertilitytreatment
#eggdonation
#IVF
#ICSI
#ivficsi
#artificialinsemination
#manzaneraclinic
#miniserieslaboratory
#episode11

Good Morning!
